Snowdrop

Week beginning 12th September 2022

This week we have been focusing on the JC Promise ‘Be Kind and Caring’

This week in maths, children have continued learning all about place value. We have been partitioning numbers to 1000 using base 10 in a variety of ways and writing the number sentences to match our representations. We have also started to look at using number lines to 1000.

In English, children have continued their learning with Flat Stanley. We have been creating our own sentences with conjunctions and fronted adverbials. Children have then planned their innovated version by describing Stanley and started writing the beginning of the story.

Children have also visited Nottingham City Centre this week as part of our Geography topic. After arriving by Tram and a quick toilet trip, children completed activities using their senses to explore what they could see, hear, touch, taste and feel. Children had a range of ideas and were able to openly discuss what they had learned.

Week beginning 5th September 2022

Children have settled in their new class and have approached each activity with enthusiasm and a smile on their face.

This week we have been focusing on the JC Promise ‘Make everyone welcome’

This week in maths, children have been learning all about place value. We have been counting in 100’s and applying our learning to reasoning questions. Children have been using a range of resources such as place value counters and dienes to demonstrate their understanding.

In English, children have been introduced to their new text, Flat Stanley. Children have been creating actions to remember the story, ordering events and then creating sentences to describe Stanley’s actions. Children have also been rehearsing this story with their new actions throughout the week to help them remember the story in lots of detail.

Children have also started their new geography topic all about our world. Children have been learning about globes and their key details. Children have then created their own globes, identifying continents and the equator line.

Please see a copy of our text and story map for Flat Stanley below.
