Clover

Week beginning 5th September

What a fantastic first full week back we had in Clover class!

We welcomed in the new year with smiles, examples of wonderful learning behaviour and even four new classmates.

We began our English for the year, during which we will be writing Greek myths. Our focus is on the labours of Heracles (Hercules if you're a Roman!). We looked at an example story, unpicking key grammar features such as; the past tense, fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases.

In Maths, our focus is place value. We were amazing at rounding to the nearest 10s and 100s as well as looking at place value in 4-digit numbers. We have also been practising our subitising skills using: https://mathsbot.com/tools/subitising why not play at home!

Our work on Ancient Greece has started properly, looking at where and when the Anicent Greek civilisation existed. In Music, we started our body percussion work (BOOM, SNAP, CLAP!).

Thank you to all children and adults for an incredible, exciting start to the year.

Week beginning 12th September

Another brilliant week in Clover class!

Behaviour has remained positive, with children really thinking about how to follow the JC Promises, focusing on being kind and caring.

In our English we planned and then wrote a shared section of the story, inclduing the key features of expanded noun phrases, fronted adverbials and FANBOYS conjunctions.

For Maths, we continued our work on place value and number, partitioning 4-digit numbers a range of different ways.

In Science, we looked at classifying vertebrates into their 5 main groups (MR FAB): mammals, reptiles, fish, amphibians, birds.

Our Ancient Greece focused was on Ancient Greek mythology and beliefs. Did you know that they believed 12 gods lived above Mt. Olympus in sky palaces? In Music, we learned a new percussion song called The Mambo Cup Song (I-like-ice-cream...).
