Spring 1 - First 3 Weeks

It's been a wonderful first half to our Spring 1 half term.

We've just finished writing our diaries from the perspective of Tranio or Livia from Escape from Pompeii. The children have really focused their energy on writing with the key features, as well as considering their own writing targets.

Our Maths work has been focused on multiplication and division skills. Hard work on TTRS has definitely paid off!

We've started to learn the ukulele. C, Am and F chord are all beginning to be mastered, so when we've learned G we'll be able to play our song for the half term: Stand by Me.

This half term has been erupting with knowledge and learning about volcanoes and earthquakes. We've looked at the structure of the Earth; why volcanoes erupt and earthquales happen; and the impacts of eruptions and quakes.

We are delighted to learn about the Chinese New Year celebrations that many of our JC family have each year this week too.

Here's to another amazing 3 weeks!

Winter Winter Poem

Winter, Winter,
can you see?
A special time for
you and me!

Winter, Winter,
do you know
I love the fluffy
pure white snow?

Winter, Winter,
bright, shiny lights.
Illuminating
long, dark nights.

Winter, Winter,
what a treat!

Lots of yummy

Food to eat

Winter, Winter,
time for family,
friends and loved ones,
special to me!

Winter, Winter
it's Christmas Eve.
Winter, look
at our beautiful trees!

Winter, Winter,
make it snow
So that Santa
can come and go!

Winter, Winter,
come right up!
Have some hot chocolate
in a cup!

Winter, Winter,
don't go away.
I really, really
want you to stay!

Week beginning 31st October

Welcome back everybody!

What a wonderful first week back we've had. The children have been focused and ready to learn.

The second autumn half term is dominated by one word...Christmas. We know it's early, but preparations have begun for our festive period, especially with singing. In Year 4 our focus song is: What Christmas Means To Me - Stevie Wonder.  You can listen to the track and see the lyrics below if you want to practice at home.

Ba ba ba ba ba, Oh yeah!

Candles burning low
Lots of mistletoe
Lots of snow and ice
Everywhere we go
Choirs singing carols
Right outside my door

All these things and more
(All these things and more)
That's what Christmas means to me my love
(That's what Christmas means to me my love) Oh yeah!

I see your smiling face
Like I never seen before
Even though I love you madly
It seems I love you more
And little cards you give me
Will touch my heart for sure

All these things and more
(All these things and more)
That's what Christmas means to me, my love
(That's what Christmas means to me, my love)

I feel like running wild
As anxious as a little child
Greet you ‘neath the mistletoe
Kiss you once and then some more
I wish you a Merry Christmas, baby
(I Wish you a Merry Christmas, baby)
And such happiness in the comin' year
(And such happiness in the comin' year)

Let's deck the halls with holly
Sing sweet silent night
Fill the tree with angel hair
And pretty, pretty lights
Go to sleep and wake up
Just before daylight

All these things and more
(All these things and more)
That's what Christmas means to me, my love
(That's what Christmas means to me, my love)
All these things and more
(All these things and more)
That's what Christmas means to me, my love
(That's what Christmas means to me, my love)
means to me, means to me,
(Ba ba ba ba ba, Ba ba ba ba ba)
That's what Christmas, Christmas means to me!

Week beginning 26th September

As we enter the second half of this half term, our focus has shifted to our new writing topic (and to keeping warm!)

It was wonderful having parents join us for our meetings this week, hopefully all information was understood and helpful. We will update the website with the information as soon as possible.

In English we have started our explanation text block of writing. We will be using the mythical beasts we created and writing a "How to look after..." piece about them, inspired by our class novel.

In Maths we have been quickly revisiting division and fractions, especially using bar models to divide and find fractions of amounts.

In other curriculum areas, we have continued to build on our knowledge and skills covered so far this term. In PE we are moving towards devising some dance routines for Black History Month.

In computing we created audio content using: https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/
