Trip to Beeston Canal and Lock

On Tuesday (7th June) Year 4 had the most incredible day exploring Beeston Canal and the area around Beeston Lock. We walked along the canal to the turnover bridge by Nottingham Casual rugby club, stopping to see where the horses' ropes had worn grooves into the iron bollards. Along with this, we took a walk around part of the Big Track, examining the River Trent and comparing it to the man-made waterway of the canal. Lots was learned about both the river and canal, as well as how to do some canal and river inspired yoga! We spent lunch on Beeston Weir Recreation Ground, making the most of the fabulous weather. Fortunately a kind man at the Heritage Centre showed us how to open the lock as well. We also spent time discussing water safety and reflecting at Owen's place.

All of Year 4 cannot recommend the canal highly enough. It was a marvellous day out, and somewhere we think families should definitely visit if they can! The Heritage Centre also has activities, a cafe and a wonderful garden if you are interested in spending some time down there.
