The Wildflower Garden

Weekending 10th June 2022

Beep! Beep!    Smile please!

Welcome back to the second part of the Summer Term.  We have started our topic, ‘Up Up and Away’ which focuses on all the different ways we travel around eg. on foot, cars, trains, boats, planes etc.

This week we started off by talking about how we come to school. We created a pictogram to show how many children came by foot, car, bus, scooter or bike. We have looked at all types of land vehicles this week - cars, trucks, buses, police cars, ambulances, tractors and fire engines.

We also created pictures of roads by dipping the car wheels into paint and rolling them along the paper.  We glued shapes on the paper to create cars or trucks and printed wheels on them using bobbins.

The children loved challenging themselves this week, as they made bridges using cups and strips of paper. They loved seeing how high they could make the bridges before it toppled down. They experimented by making the base wider and then adding the bridges on top.  It was great to see their cooperation with each other and how they cheered their friends on as they created their tall bridges

Our focus story for the next 3 weeks is ‘ Mr. Gumpy’s Motor Car’. You can see this story on youtube. Encourage your child to talk to you about the story.

Finally, we were so proud of the children on Wednesday, as they did a great job, sitting and posing beautifully for their class photo.  They are really getting used to exploring different parts of the school, as the photos were taken in the Infant Hall. We have also started to use the Foundation playground which the children have absolutely loved.  Of course, these little steps help to support the children in their transition to the F2 classes.
