The Wildflower Garden

Weekending 20th May

Caterpillars      Ducks    Brushing Buddies   Outdoor explorers

We have had another busy week and the children have learnt lots of lovely things. We have continued to explore things that grow and changes that happen.

Reading.

Our book this week has been The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We have become very confident in retelling the story using descriptive language.  We discussed the new vocabulary- chrysalis and cocoon.

Talk for writing

After reading the story of the Hungry Caterpillar, we told the story to our talk partner. We then wrote all about the caterpillar and what he ate  each day.

Art

We drew caterpillars and butterflies, using curved lines, segments and symmetry. We used different media to create out caterpillars- chalks, paints, playdough and colouring pencils.

Outdoor

We explored the outside garden areas and the field for cocoons and baby caterpillars, unfortunately, all we found were SLUGS!

Maths

We have been learning the names and order of the days of the week. We have talked about how many days are in a week.  We have also been learning to take away amounts using different objects.

Ducks

We went down to the outdoor learning area to watch the ducks swim. They have grown bigger and are very noisy and even messier than us!

Health and Hygiene

We have been learning about how to keep ourselves healthy, we have eaten fruit and then brushed our teeth to get rid of all the sugar from our teeth.
