The Wildflower Garden

Weekending 22nd April 2022

Welcome back everyone! The children have settled back into the Bluebell Class.

This half term, we are learning about how things grow and change. This week, we have started off by looking at how we grow and change.  We have talked about what we were like when we were babies and how we couldn’t walk, talk or feed ourselves.  We looked at pictures of toddlers, girls and boys, men and women and then older people.  The children then ordered pictures of people from being a baby, girl/boy, man/woman and an older person.

Our focus book over the first three weeks is The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  We will be looking at the lifecycle of a butterfly and the children will learn the sequence of the story and will be encouraged to retell the story.  We will also focus on learning the days of the week, as we find out what the caterpillar ate each day.

We also talked about when we grow up and what we might like to be.  We looked at lots of pictures of people doing different jobs.  The children then talked about what they wanted to be when they grow up. The choices ranged from being astronauts, doctors, footballers, police officers, fire fighters, and a lollipop person.

We have also been focusing on counting groups of objects.  The children have been encouraged to make sure that they say the number when they touch each object.  They have loved moving magnets in groups around the whiteboard and subitizing (saying how many there are in a group). They have been subitizing up to 5.

We hope that you all have a wonderful weekend.
