The Wildflower Garden

Weekending 17th June 2022

This is your Captain speaking. Please put on your seat belts!

The great outdoors      Bridges and tracks

The children have loved the story, ‘The Train Ride’. We played lots of games related to the story, particularly in phonics where I ‘robot talked’ some of the things that could be seen from the train window and the children had to tell me what they were.

We continued our topic related to transport and journeys.  We looked at photos of transport from the past and the children saw the similarities and the differences, saying if they were old or new.

It was great to see the children working together and challenging themselves, as they used paper cups and strips of paper to make bridges. They have improved their skills from last week as they experimented and made higher and more complex and sturdy bridges, the construction of which required a great deal of cooperation and patience.

As you all know, we have been using the Foundation playground.  Everyone has loved the slide, the climbing walls on the slide, the tyre swing, as well as the bicycles and the caterpillar.

As always, there were some fantastic models created in the construction area.  We love hearing the children describe their design and see how they often work together on their designs.

The children often bring us items which they find interesting. This week, we’ve had a sheaf of grass, a strawberry which was half green and half red, as it had not yet fully grown. Lots of the children commented that it was ‘changing and growing’ just like the plants we had looked at in our last topic. We also had a magpie’s feather brought in from a weekend trip to the park. It is wonderful to see the children engaged in the natural world around them and how curious they are about what they see.
