This week we started our new focus story, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. Earlier in the week, the children were introduced to the story as we told the story using the small world resources. Everyone had a go at giving the characters different voices and they asked for the beanstalk to reach up as tall as the alphabet banner. We were able to remember lots of the words we have focused on in the past such as, long, longer, short, big, small, tall, enormous and huge, as they described the giant and his enormous castle with huge furniture. They used the wooden blocks and had a go at making some large furniture for the small world people to use.
It has been a week of visitors. Firstly, the guinea pigs returned to us after visiting the other JC Classes. The children absolutely loved being able to stroke and cuddle them, as they listened to stories and as always, Miss Birch showed the children how to take care of them, as she clipped their claws and gave their hair a little trim.
We also loved having the new JC ducklings in our class. The children were so delighted to discover them in the class on Thursday morning. It was so fantastic to see their joy and excitement as they had a paddle in the pool. Some of the children were inspired to paint pictures of the ducks and of course, Dinky, the smallest duckling seems to be a real favourite.
We also welcomed Dan who came in to teach the children the basics of skipping. The Blubell class took part in lots of games where they had to jump over the rope and land on two feet, jump over the rope as it wriggled, as well as run under the rope. They really enjoyed the session.
